Bakufu controls Daimyo
-
Relationships between the shogun and daimyo were very imprtant in the political sysem of Edo Japan.
-
The daimyo were divided into three classes (you weren't allowed to move out of these classes):
-
The most trusted people.
-
The people/nobles that came from the Tokugawa family.
-
People that had little power because they had crossed the shogun before he came into power.
-
The Bakufu wanted to make sure the daimyo didn't take control of the shogun or member's of the military government by gaining enough money or authority to do so. In order to prevent this from happening, they passed a series of rules.
-
You can't talk to other neighbouring daimyo unless it is necessary and report any suspicious activity to the bakufu. Don't let criminals to the shogun to enter your domain.
-
Public building projects must be supported by the daimyo.
-
1 castle per domain and daimyo must provide the bakufu with detailed maps of their domain.
-
Daimyo marriages must have the permission of the bakufu.
-
You are not allowed to travel or build ships.
-
Every second year of the daimyo must be spent in Edo.
-
All commoners have to register at a Bhuddist temple.
